Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, was named in Portugal's first squad under new coach Jorge Jesus, adding to his record 233 international caps and 146 goals for Portugal as the team opens its UEFA Nations League title defense on Sept. 24 at home against Wales.[^1]

The squad is the first under Jorge Jesus, who takes over a Portugal side carrying that record tally of caps and goals into the group stage.

The Nations League now runs a new format. The top 16 teams play in four round-robin groups, with the top two from each advancing to two-legged quarterfinals in March and a Final Four tournament scheduled for June 9-13, 2026, hosted by one of the semifinalists.[^2]
